By Name

Ahava Collection

Inspired by the words שְׂאוּ אֶת־רֹאשׁ ("Lift up the head") and בְּמִסְפַּר שֵׁמוֹת ("By the number of names") from Numbers 1:2, this work reflects a profound idea found in the opening chapter of Bamidbar. Before the people of Israel are counted, they are first called to be lifted.

More than a census, the verse speaks to the dignity of the individual soul. In a world that often measures worth through numbers, status, and achievement, the Torah reminds us that true elevation comes from being known. Each person is remembered, called, and cherished by name.

Through layers of movement and abstraction, By Name explores the belief that Hashem does not see humanity as a crowd, but as individuals. He lifts us, restores our dignity, and knows each soul according to its unique purpose.

Not by number. By name.
